I have used, so far, three of the different methods that WordPress offers for me to include images in my posts.
- Uploading the images to the WordPress servers, which seemed to work fine for a while, but I quickly filled up the 13 GB of storage they provide, and I was forced to find an alternative.
- Uploading the images to Flickr, which appears to have no limit on storage space, and then using the WordPress “Flickr Embed” “block”. This solved the space limitation problem, but some readers reported that images appeared distorted when they read my posts, especially on their smart phones.
- Uploading the images to Flickr, but using the WordPress “Custom HTML” “block”, instead, which provides me a little more control over how the images are rendered. This appeared to solve the problem of distorted images that some readers had reported, but others reported that there was now just a URL where the image was supposed to be.
Thus, as of late fall 2025, the first method is not an option, and to provide the best experience for the most readers I am using both options 2 and 3 together. That means that:
- some readers will see two perfectly fine images, although the first of the two will look sharper under closer inspection;
- some readers will see one correct image and one distorted image; and
- some readers will see a URL and one correct image.
If and when I come across a better solution, I will switch to that and let you know.
