Anne and I made it to the Rotary Park in Sparta, Illinois without any trouble, and we got to enjoy a full three minutes of totality. It was amazing, but I didn’t bother with pictures, and we just enjoyed it.
Before the big show, however, we also got to watch this Osprey fishing over the Old City Reservoir. What a great opening act.
We didn’t see it have any luck, but at least is was a very nice day for a dip.

My husband and I took a road trip for the eclipse also. We left for Houston the day after Easter and spent 4 days exploring the Houston Space Center. The highlight of that visit was a chance meeting of Victor Glover – an Artemis II astronaut – while on a VIP tour of the astronaut training facilities. Then, we drove to Ravenden, AR (pop. ~500) for eclipse day. We viewed it from the local park with 2-3 dozen other out-of-towners. This was our fourth total eclipse. We’ve been fortunate to never be rained/clouded out. Each has been fabulous. It’s fun to meet others and share the experience. Good choice to not take photos – the experience shouldn’t be missed.
