Man, the sky has been so consistently grey in Estabrook Park for so long that when there was a momentary gap in the grey this morning, I jokingly asked the folks on our weekly wildlife walk, “what’s that blue stuff overhead?” Well, at least the winds were light, and it wasn’t raining yet. As IContinue reading “A slow start to Thanksgiving week…”

Seems like they’re all up to something.
The thick cloud cover continued this morning in Estabrook Park, but it got a little cooler, and the air was almost still, so it was a pretty good time to check on the wildlife. I don’t know if she’s getting used to me, or she really wanted that fish she had just glimpsed, but theContinue reading “Seems like they’re all up to something.”
Someone new for November…
The weather this morning in Estabrook Park was similar to yesterday’s, but the clouds held their water, and I didn’t feel a drop. I took a slightly different route this today and so reached the river a bit sooner and a bit downstream of where I normally would, which turned out to be just theContinue reading “Someone new for November…”
A warm November rain…
The clouds were thick over Estabrook Park this morning, but the temps were unseasonably mild, the breeze was light, and the rain appeared to have stopped. In fact, the forecast called for a 15% chance of rain and the radar looked clear. Anne and I have learned, however, especially while bicycle touring, that the “15%”Continue reading “A warm November rain…”
Lots of dawdlers hanging around…
It was cloudy and a little breezy this morning in Estabrook Park, but at least it was warm and not raining. The osprey was back yet again, and why not? The weather has been balmy lately, and the fish are tasty, so what’s the rush, right? Similarly, I counted eight wood ducks on the pondContinue reading “Lots of dawdlers hanging around…”
Rinse and repeat…
Despite the rain overnight, the weather this morning in Estabrook Park was almost a carbon-copy of yesterday: cloudy, still, warm, and dryer than forecast. The critters, however, were a bit scarcer, but that certainly could be simply because I didn’t have four additional sets of eyes helping me. I didn’t see a heron at theContinue reading “Rinse and repeat…”
A new crowd settles in…
The clouds and breeze stayed away, at least for this morning, and the temperature rose a bit overnight, so we had no frost today in Estabrook Park. I bet this little cutie that I found at the north end of the soccer fields didn’t mind that a bit. Beside the river at the north end,Continue reading “A new crowd settles in…”
Old friends show their faces again…
It wasn’t as warm nor as sunny this morning in Estabrook Park as it’s been lately, but it was still a perfectly nice time for a visit. My first thrill of the morning was spotting this muskrat up near our riverbank and munching on its breakfast. They sure made themselves scarce over the summer, butContinue reading “Old friends show their faces again…”
