A warm November rain…

The clouds were thick over Estabrook Park this morning, but the temps were unseasonably mild, the breeze was light, and the rain appeared to have stopped. In fact, the forecast called for a 15% chance of rain and the radar looked clear. Anne and I have learned, however, especially while bicycle touring, that the “15%”Continue reading “A warm November rain…”

A good day for raptors!

The weather was pretty much “as forecast” in Estabrook Park this morning, so we had plenty of clouds and wind, but temps were mild and it didn’t rain, so yay! We also had a great turnout for our weekly wildlife walk, and there were twelve of us, if you include me. The first pleasant surpriseContinue reading “A good day for raptors!”

Lots of dawdlers hanging around…

It was cloudy and a little breezy this morning in Estabrook Park, but at least it was warm and not raining. The osprey was back yet again, and why not? The weather has been balmy lately, and the fish are tasty, so what’s the rush, right? Similarly, I counted eight wood ducks on the pondContinue reading “Lots of dawdlers hanging around…”

The rain holds off, for now…

It was windy and cloudy this morning in Estabrook Park, but the temps were mild, and it barely sprinkled, so it turned out to be a far nicer morning than I expected when I went out the door. I was a little surprised to find a great blue heron perched low over the river farContinue reading “The rain holds off, for now…”

Even more frost…

The air temperature might have been a smidge warmer at dawn, but the air was a bit stiller, and the sky was just as clear, so there was even more frost this morning in Estabrook Park than yesterday. I saw four deer in three locations, but it wasn’t until this buck paused in the riverContinue reading “Even more frost…”

Nothing crazy, but a nice little epiphany

The forecast cold front did roll through last evening, and it was cool and blustery in Estabrook Park this morning, with winds out of the ESE and clouds slowly thickening. Thus, the wood ducks huddled against the eastern shore of the pond instead of their usual place in the northwest corner where they can soakContinue reading “Nothing crazy, but a nice little epiphany”

Lots of familiar faces…

It was pretty nice in Estabrook Park at sunrise, but you can tell a change in the weather is coming. The sky now has a thin, white overcast, the breeze is picking up, and I hear rain is on the way. Until then, however, the critters were plentiful, and my first greeter this morning wasContinue reading “Lots of familiar faces…”

October keeps on delivering…

The stunningly beautiful weather in Estabrook Park just keeps coming, and today was just as clear and just as calm as yesterday, but a smidge warmer. Before we get into today’s sights, however, I still have some from yesterday to show you. The yellow-bellied sapsuckers have not all passed through yet, and this gorgeous creatureContinue reading “October keeps on delivering…”
