Gotta see ’em while they’re here…

The weather was even nicer today in Estabrook Park than it was yesterday. The sky was just as clear, but the air was a bit warmer, and the breeze was even lighter. Sweet!

The young gosling on the river was able to pin its mom down for a group photo this time, but Dad still managed to stay out of frame.

It does really seem as though we are past the peak of migration, but there are still a few warblers around, and here’s a young or female Canada warbler by the river.

I didn’t see a blackpoll warbler today, but here’s one from yesterday in the same tree as the Bay-breasted warbler.

With all the bugs available these days, I was a little surprised to see this gray catbird gobbling up sumac seeds from last fall, but I guess it knows that “eating a … balanced diet is an important part of maintaining good health.”

Of the fancy little birds, probably the most numerous right now are the blue-gray gnatcatchers, and here’s another look at the one from Friday.

Word must have gotten out that I was taking glam shots yesterday, because this red-eyed vireo by the pond seemed to be saying “I’m next! I’m next!”

The green heron was still on the pond, and this time there were no branches around so I didn’t have to resort to showing you its reflection.

Finally, your blossoms of the day are from what I believe is a downy hawthorn tree (Crataegus mollis)

Lastly, I will be in the parking lot by the beer garden at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning, and again at 8 a.m., so if you’re around on the holiday, and don’t already have other obligations, come on out and let’s see who we can find.
