Some calming sights to get us through this day…

Once again, I was pleasantly surprised by the weather in Estabrook Park this morning. It was indeed plenty cloudy, but the winds took a while to pick up, the rain held off, and it was quite warm for November.

My next pleasant surprise was finding that sneaky gadwall on the river at the north end. We searched high and low for it yesterday, but five pairs of eyes failed to find it, and today it was broadcasting, “What? I was here all along!”

I did also see one great blue heron on the river, but this picture, such as it is, is from Sunday.

The arty shot of the day came on my way back downstream when I spotted my first white-throated sparrow of the morning.

Her beaks kind of a mess from the grapes she’s eating, so I wouldn’t exactly call this an arty shot, but she was intent enough on what she was doing to let me sneak a nice picture of a female northern cardinal.

Finally, here’s another sight from yesterday as I made my way home down the Oak Leaf Trail: a male red-bellied woodpecker.

The current forecast for tomorrow morning is quite wet, so who knows what I’ll see and when, but if I do get any pictures, you know where to look for them.
