A sneak peek at sights to come…

The air was very mild and still this morning, but the sky was pretty full of clouds at sunrise, and some of them even leaked on me a bit, so the weather in Estabrook Park was sort of a mixed bag. I wanted to join the Milwaukee Birders for their visit to the Schlitz AudubonContinue reading “A sneak peek at sights to come…”

Some sights we don’t get to see often…

I had reason to run out to the Wehr Nature Center this morning, and the event was at 9am, so I figured I should get there before the sun rose. That way I could spend my daylight looking for wildlife there instead of while sitting in my car. Anyway, this is who I found. IContinue reading “Some sights we don’t get to see often…”

Another first of the season, and perhaps a last…

It was cloudy and windy this morning in Estabrook, but at least temps were mild for the season, and it wasn’t raining. These conditions made it a little tricky to find photogenic subjects, but the park still delivered anyway. I found this little cutie, our first eastern bluebird of the month, just as I wasContinue reading “Another first of the season, and perhaps a last…”

A little progress in CT at last…

Sorry about the radio silence lately. An odd confluence of events and conditions out here have really put a damper on my picture taking this week, but I finally had some luck this morning. Besides the American crows and blue jays we see in Estabrook, I see two more corvids regularly out here. This firstContinue reading “A little progress in CT at last…”

Kohler-Andrae 2025, Day 2

A thick cloud deck rolled in sometime overnight, here at Kohler-Andrae State Park, so it was a pretty dark morning, and I gave the cordwalk through the Kohler Dunes State Natural Area a try. I hadn’t even stepped off the pavement yet when I spotted three wild turkeys, who did their best to ignore meContinue reading “Kohler-Andrae 2025, Day 2”

Back in Estabrook again…

My siblings and I all arrived home safely from Colorado yesterday afternoon, but before we left, my sister who lives there and her husband really wanted to show us the bald eagles’ nest just down the road from their place, and here it is. I wrote yesterday that it was very windy out there, andContinue reading “Back in Estabrook again…”

Spring makes a quick comeback…

Sure, at 22°F, it was a bit chilly this morning for the middle of March, but the sun was mostly out, and the breeze was very light, so it was quite a nice morning for our Weekly Wildlife Walk in Estabrook Park. There were eleven of us all together, and we identified 25 bird species.Continue reading “Spring makes a quick comeback…”

The new arrivals pick up their pace…

It did warm up into the low 30s by sunrise, but it also clouded up, as forecast, so the river trail mud was nice and firm for our weekly wildlife walk this morning. There were eight of us, all together, and we managed to spot 25 bird species. The first treat of the morning wasContinue reading “The new arrivals pick up their pace…”

It’s beginning to look a lot like winter…

We got about four inches of the white stuff in Estabrook Park since just after I left yesterday morning, and the clouds were still low and heavy when I returned early today. That dim light might be why I was able to find this muskrat enjoying its breakfast out on the ice, as we’ve beenContinue reading “It’s beginning to look a lot like winter…”

CT just keeps getting better…

Man-oh-man, the sights just won’t stop out here. The temps were in the mid-teens at sunrise, but the air was still, and the sky was perfectly clear, which you know I like. Best of all, my sister, the vet who saved the wren a while back, wanted to come with and see the otters. AsContinue reading “CT just keeps getting better…”
