Holy moly, was the fog thick this morning in Estabrook Park. I could barely see across the river at times. The breeze and road traffic were both light, on the other hand, so I could still hear the birds pretty well. Oddly, the critters I did manage to photograph today kept still and didn’t makeContinue reading “Boxed in by thick fog…”

The white stuff sticks around…
The dreary weather continues, but the lack of sun, and temps right around freezing, have left enough of the snow on the ground from Friday to let us have at least a white Christmas eve in Milwaukee. At this rate, it might even last until the big day tomorrow. Let me start at the northContinue reading “The white stuff sticks around…”
Lots of familiar faces, and maybe a new one…
First, before I forget, I want to remind you that I’ll be back in Estabrook Park at 8am tomorrow morning for our Weekly Wildlife Walk. If you haven’t been out since the snow arrived, this might be your last chance to enjoy it before warmer temps and rain wash it all away. Alright, back toContinue reading “Lots of familiar faces, and maybe a new one…”
A lull after the storm…
It certainly was a nice enough morning in Estabrook Park. Sure, it was cold, at 10°F, but the breeze was pretty light, and the sun shone through at times. The critters, however, mostly kept out of sight. I did see two great horned owls, but the pictures aren’t as great, and I didn’t see anyContinue reading “A lull after the storm…”
It’s beginning to look a lot like winter…
We got about four inches of the white stuff in Estabrook Park since just after I left yesterday morning, and the clouds were still low and heavy when I returned early today. That dim light might be why I was able to find this muskrat enjoying its breakfast out on the ice, as we’ve beenContinue reading “It’s beginning to look a lot like winter…”
Winter creeps back in…
The winter weather resumed this morning in Estabrook Park, with temps around freezing, cloudy skies, and a light breeze. On my walk north along the river, I found the beaver having breakfast up on the ice again in almost the same spot as yesterday. This time, I had a slightly better view through the brush,Continue reading “Winter creeps back in…”
December doubles down!
The weather was just about as forecast in Estabrook Park this morning, with thick cloud cover, temps in the low 20s, light breezes, and windchills back up into the low teens. Four intrepid nature enthusiast came out to join me for our weekly wildlife walk, and this is who we saw. Everyone wanted to seeContinue reading “December doubles down!”
A winter blast arrives at last…
Temps were only in the high 20s this morning in Estabrook Park, but a stiff breeze out of the west brought the windchill down into the single digits. As we like to say, “that’s brisk!” The good news is that this should bring some ice to the river, which I have a hope will finallyContinue reading “A winter blast arrives at last…”
The sun was fun while it lasted…
The clouds are back over Estabrook Park today, but the air was a bit warmer than yesterday and a lot less breezy. Add to that a reduction in commuter traffic noise for the holiday, and it was a perfect morning for enjoying some peace and quiet along the Milwaukee River. The icing on the cakeContinue reading “The sun was fun while it lasted…”
Some sun and blue sky, at long last…
We finally received our first hard freeze overnight in Estabrook Park, and the ground was crunchy with ice in places this morning. It was also a bit breezy, which pushed the windchill into the teens, but the sky was blue, and the sun was warm, so it was a darn fine morning for taking pictures.Continue reading “Some sun and blue sky, at long last…”
