A little HTML before the snow flies…

Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to the image handling test I sent out earlier today. It appears that WordPress’s “custom HTML” block does solve most of the problems that folks were having with images, so I’m gonna try using only that today and see what I inadvertently break next. As forecast,Continue reading “A little HTML before the snow flies…”

Quite the mixed bag…

“Second Weekends are State Park Weekends” for the Milwaukee Birders, and since things had been quiet at Estabrook for the past couple of days, I thought I’d join them at Havenwoods State Forest this morning. They didn’t start until 8:30, however, so I stopped by Estabrook on my way, just to see what I’d beContinue reading “Quite the mixed bag…”

A little bit of everything…

It was another beautiful morning in Estabrook Park, and I thought there was enough light for me to get a nice and early start. So early, in fact, that I surprised this raccoon, who was still out foraging by the underpass when I walked by. Things were quiet, however, and the only bird picture IContinue reading “A little bit of everything…”

Some success on a soggy day…

It was quite a soggy morning in Estabrook Park, but there was a gap in the rain, so out the door I went, and my first treat came as I approached the middle parking lot on my way to the pond. There was a Cooper’s hawk, which I don’t believe I’ve managed to photograph sinceContinue reading “Some success on a soggy day…”

A little iffy weather won’t slow them down…

I gotta admit, I felt sorta iffy about visiting Estabrook Park this morning. At sunrise the wind was howling, the clouds were thick, and it was spritzing enough to wet the pavement. But, I always need the walk, and the nature is supposed to be good for my head, so I grabbed my raincoat andContinue reading “A little iffy weather won’t slow them down…”

It feels like spring has finally sprung…

The weather was as nice this morning in Estabrook Park as forecast, and yesterday’s sun had dried out the river trail mud quite a bit, so it was a perfect time for our weekly wildlife walk. There were thirteen of us all together, and we saw 28 bird species, including a first-of-the-year northern flicker. WeContinue reading “It feels like spring has finally sprung…”

February gets blown away…

Well, I finally did return to Estabrook Park this morning, and winter sure is on a break, if it’s not gone for good. There’s still plenty of ice slowly melting in the river and a couple of small patches of snow in the woods where it must have drifted a bit deeper than elsewhere, butContinue reading “February gets blown away…”

Plenty to see, despite the snow…

It was warmer than the past few mornings in Estabrook Park today, with temps in the mid to high 20s, but the wind was really blowing at times, and bands of light snow kept drifting through, so I was thrilled when four intrepid nature enthusiasts joined me for our weekly wildlife walk. Besides many ofContinue reading “Plenty to see, despite the snow…”

A slow start to Thanksgiving week…

Man, the sky has been so consistently grey in Estabrook Park for so long that when there was a momentary gap in the grey this morning, I jokingly asked the folks on our weekly wildlife walk, “what’s that blue stuff overhead?” Well, at least the winds were light, and it wasn’t raining yet. As IContinue reading “A slow start to Thanksgiving week…”

Weekly wildlife walk number 3.

The cloud cover was pretty thin at sunrise, but they soon got that fixed, and today became as grey as seems to have become the norm lately. On the plus side, the air was as still as forecast, it was barely cool enough for frost to form overnight by radiant cooling, and it didn’t rainContinue reading “Weekly wildlife walk number 3.”
