Autumn really starts to settle in…

It was cold, windy, cloudy, and even sprinkley this morning in Estabrook Park, so a classic autumn day in southeast Wisconsin. There were still a few sights to see, despite the weather, but I didn’t see a picture I could take until I was beside the river at the north end. That’s when the doeContinue reading “Autumn really starts to settle in…”

A fine morning, despite the radar picture…

It was another rainy morning in Estabrook Park, but not as rainy as the big green blob on the radar suggested, so I gave it a try after about an hour delay. By then the precipitation had stopped, the air was nearly still, and I just about had the park to myself, people-wise, that is.Continue reading “A fine morning, despite the radar picture…”

A great show, despite the cold…

It was a bit chilly this morning in Estabrook Park, and the flooded area where we’ve been seeing the coot was all frozen over, but the wind was light, and the sky was crystal clear, so it was a good morning for checking on the critters. A few pictures before the snow flies…

The temps in Estabrook Park this morning were mild, at just around freezing, the winds were light, but the clouds had thickened up again. Two out of three ain’t bad, right? Sewing silk purses…

It was a very soggy morning in Estabrook Park, but temps were in the 40s, the winds were light, and critters are on the move, so I eventually dragged myself out to take a look. The ice on the pond is starting to melt, and here’s the first critter I found taking advantage of theContinue reading “Sewing silk purses…”

Thank heaven for little birds…

After the wind howled all night long, it had backed off to just 18 mph at sunrise this morning. Add that to an air temperature of a chilly 14°F, and the windchill dipped into negative territory for the first time this year in Estabrook Park. I don’t know if that was the cause, or itContinue reading “Thank heaven for little birds…”

A few bright spots in a dreary day…

It was another dark and dreary morning in Estabrook Park, and I seriously considered not even getting out of bed. But, it wasn’t raining, I needed the exercise, and “exposure to nature has been linked to a host of [mental health] benefits,” so I got myself up and went for a walk anyway. I sawContinue reading “A few bright spots in a dreary day…”
