The clouds of November relent…

It was a very pretty morning in Estabrook Park, pretty cool, pretty breezy, and pretty sunny, but at least I lucked out and yesterday’s sunshine continued into today.

The sun let me get started nice and early, and I took the path beside the river to keep out of the breeze, but that’s what led me to spot the beaver again already. If you look closely, you can see its little paw holding a stick still partially covered in the bark it is enjoying for breakfast.

The breeze was also blocked at the pond, so the pied-billed grebe could snooze in this tranquil scene.

While the single pair of wood ducks, that I could find still with us, opted for dryer naps.

Finally, the male belted kingfisher, we’ve been seeing at the river lately, let me sneak a much closer shot than usual.

I see that a rusty blackbird was reported in Estabrook this morning after I was already back home enjoying my breakfast, and the breeze is supposed to calm down by tomorrow while skies remain mostly clear, so come on out for our weekly wildlife walk to help me find it. I’ll look for you in the beer garden parking lot at 8am.
