The show picks up steam!

The weather was indeed as nice as forecast, and it was a fabulous morning in Estabrook Park. If you’ve been wondering, as I sure have, whatever happened to the doe and fawn that we saw on and around the upstream island before the flood, well, wonder no more because it appears that they survived justContinue reading “The show picks up steam!”

The warblers return!

The dreams I had yesterday about what today would be like came true, and despite the cold, with temps in the mid-40s, it was a spectacular morning in Estabrook Park. Also, the gray sky provides a less-than-ideal background, of course, but the wind forces the bugs to stay closer to the ground, and the birds follow them, so the sky might not evenContinue reading “Plenty of warblers, despite the weather”

Spring hits pause…

There was a stiff breeze out of the northeast this morning, which reminded me, and anyone else out in it, just how cold the waters of Lake Michigan still are. The windchill temperature was supposed to be 31°F at sunrise. Yikes! Luckily for our resident eastern screech-owl, the opening of its nook faces the southwest,Continue reading “Spring hits pause…”
