It was a cool and foggy morning in Estabrook Park, but there wasn’t any rain for a change, so it was a fine time to see who has arrived lately. The first newcomer I spotted was this very shy green heron at the river. I actually glimpsed it already yesterday, but it wouldn’t let meContinue reading “Some nice sights, despite the fog…”

Just when I thought April couldn’t get any wetter…
Sheesh! It really poured last night. I hope you stayed dry. The river wasn’t as high as it got during the great flood last August, but the pond was higher than I’ve ever seen it, and high enough to completely cover the island, which inundated the goose nest. She was off it when I arrivedContinue reading “Just when I thought April couldn’t get any wetter…”
A wet April gets even wetter…
It has dried out now, but it was plenty rainy and breezy early this morning, so I didn’t get into Estabrook Park for a while. Instead I used that extra time to write this up and use a few more pictures from yesterday. At first glance, this looks like just another picture of a red-breastedContinue reading “A wet April gets even wetter…”
All kinds of treats to see today…
Sorry for the delay. It was a stupendous morning to return to Estabrook Park, despite the storms overnight, but it’s been a busy afternoon. The breeze was light, the air was warm, the sky was mostly clear, and there were plenty of lake flies in the air, so conditions were ideal for finding new arrivals.Continue reading “All kinds of treats to see today…”
Day 2 in D-town…
The human-powered vehicle competition got underway on the Dallas College, Richland Campus yesterday morning, but before the students all arrived with their contraptions, I had a couple hours to myself to see what wildlife might also be making their home there. They have a nice water feature running through the middle of the campus, soContinue reading “Day 2 in D-town…”
Lots of little beauties…
The weather this morning in Estabrook Park was similar to yesterday, but a little colder and a little less windy, which is a trade I’ll make any day, especially when the sky is clear. My hike upstream along the river was pleasant but uneventful, and when I climbed up onto the bluff at the beerContinue reading “Lots of little beauties…”
Plenty of happy sights to go around…
It was a pretty morning in Estabrook Park, with clear skies and seasonably cool temps, but we could have used a little less of that stiff breeze out of the north. Luckily, there are plenty of places for us and the critters to get out of that breeze and let the bright sun warm usContinue reading “Plenty of happy sights to go around…”
Happy Pascha, for those who celebrate.
It was cool, windy, and cloudy this morning in Estabrook Park, but at least it wasn’t raining. When I saw this eastern cottontail, I thought it would make a nice picture for today, but it appeared to want no part of that, and this is the best it would let me have. Meanwhile, this muskrat,Continue reading “Happy Pascha, for those who celebrate.”
Wet, but not a washout…
It was a pretty soggy morning in Estabrook Park, wetter than the forecast led me to expect, but it wasn’t too cold, the breeze was pretty light, and there were even times when no precipitation was falling, so it was a lot better than Thursday. The river is up at least a foot since yesterday,Continue reading “Wet, but not a washout…”
Some rainy-day sights for sore eyes…
Well, one of you must not have been squeezing your thumbs hard enough because it’s been raining all morning and looks like it’s gonna rain all day. Worse, I’ve already milked the heck out of the sapsucker sighting on Monday and the warbler sighting on Sunday, so my back pocket is empty. Thus, I haveContinue reading “Some rainy-day sights for sore eyes…”
